Obituary of Michael J. Kapps Michael J. Kapps, 75, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Rome on October 6, 1946, he was a son of the late John and Blanche (Chernesky) Kapps. He was a graduate of Transfiguration School, Westmoreland High School Class of 1964 and attended Cornell University for a short time. On October 9, 1976, he was united in marriage to Bernadette Brandolo, a blessed union of over 45 years. Mike worked 39 years at Rome Strip Steel in various areas. In addition, he was a hobby farmer whose main crop was pumpkins and corn. At one time he even raised beef cows. Mike's love of farming grew from his participation in 4-H as a young child. In retirement, he loved to ride around on his tractor and hang out at the barn with his "girls". Mike was well known for his love of SU basketball, the Yankees, wine making, crazy hayrides, and his participation in bowling leagues at King Pin lanes. Out of everything else, Mike loved spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren, and driving his wife crazy on a daily basis. His positive attitude and stubborn nature will live on through the family he loved so dearly. Surviving besides his loving wife, Bernadette, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucianna Kapps and Jason Feak and Marisa and Joshua Olbrys; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Patricia Kapps and Anthony Kapps and Madelyn Jones; a sister, Deborah Dimeo (Tom); a brother, John Kapps (Kristine); seven cherished grandchildren, Gabriella and Sophia Feak, Brayton and Kaylee Kapps, Paul, John and George Olbrys; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at 11AM at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday, August 8th from 4-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to The Joseph Michael Chubbuck Foundation https://www.thejmcf.org/index.php/donate or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., https://hospicecareinc.org/donations/.
