Jinan Jedi Motorcycle Technology Ltd, or Jedi Motors, a Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer, has launched the FR 750 neo-retro roadster in its domestic market. Unlike most Chinese brands who are notorious for producing doppelgangers of popular bikes, Jedi has been doing things differently, and the FR 750 is a testament to that.
It is hard to not give the Jedi FR 750 a second glance. The wide fascia paired with the muscular body panels give this motorcycle a butch appearance. There’s a right blend of neoteric and retro elements throughout. For instance, the headlight cowl looks straight out of the 80’s, and houses a modern LED light with DRL. Then there’s the muscular 18-litre fuel tank which has integrated LED indicators. But like with most Chinese bikes, is it all show and no go?
That doesn’t seem to be the case with the Jedi FR 750. This motorcycle uses a 730cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 81.5PS at 7500rpm and 60.7Nm at 6500rpm. Interestingly, this engine has been developed by the iconic Swiss brand, Suter, that made the MMX 500 two-stroke race motorcycle.
To complement this performance, Jedi has used premium components. So, suspension duties are handled by KYB USD fork and monoshock, while Brembo brakes at both ends are entrusted with braking duties. Jedi has used Pirelli Angel GT tyres to make the most of the available performance.
Jedi Motors has equipped the FR 750 with a bunch of modern features too. Though it doesn’t get a TFT display, the multi-colour LCD display has comprehensive data. There’s also a keyless ignition system. While there’s no details about the electronic aids, it features dual-channel ABS and riding modes.
The Jedi FR 750 has been priced at CNY 43,800, or Rs 5.17 lakh. And since this neo-retro brute is not headed to India, the Kawasaki Z650RS and the Honda CB650R remain your only options if you are looking for a mid-displacement retro-themed bike.
